Sunday, June 20, 2010 SuperGT weekend roars at Sepang International Circuit SEPANG, JUNE 20, 2010: The SuperGT International Series roared at the Sepang International Circuit today as the teams began battling with motorsports fans watching the event held at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC). Apart from the main race, spectators were also treated with four top supporting races; GT3 Asia Cup, GT4 Asia Cup, Toyota Yaris/Vios Sepang Challenge and Scirocco Cup China. The Circuit Safari was an absolute hit with the fans, as they were taken around the circuit on low-loader buses while the drivers in their GT500 and GT300 machines weaved their way around the buses during their practice session. SuperGT fans were also treated with appearances of the race queens Mimi and Koko, alongside other race queens accompanying the teams at the mall area. Hundreds of fans took the opportunity to take pictures with the race queens as they mingled with the public before taking to the stage for their performance. At noon, winner of the SuperGT costume design contest, Sew Yin Fun of Carven Academy of Fashion was presented with RM2,000 in cash, a pair of GT club passes as well as hamper & vouchers sponsored by Royal Selangor and GTA in the prize presentation ceremony held at the Mall Area in SIC.The Mall area was also a hive of activities with a dance competition for children and teenagers between the ages of five to 17. The fun atmosphere was amplified with special appearances by popular local cartoon characters, Upin and Ipin. Many SuperGT fans also had the chance to meet with the SuperGT drivers during the SuperGT Driver’s Talk Show, held at the Main Stage at SIC. Meanwhile, on Saturday evening, hundreds of children got the chance to get a closer look at the Super GT cars in the popular Kids Pit Walkabout Program, where they were allowed to enter the pitlanes for free. Accompanied by their parents, the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves as they witnessed the goings-on in the pit. At night, the Teh Tarik session was attended by many Japanese football fans as they watched the live telecast of the Japan vs Netherlands game and enjoyed the local “pulled-tea” specialty. There were also display and trade booths at the mall are where race fans had a chance to grab some official merchandise and products on offer. |
